Live-in carer for an 83 year old (Valletta)

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Live-in Home Care Worker to support an elderly couple residing in a prestigious penthouse within a historic private residence in Valletta, Malta. The role focuses on maintaining dignity, independence, and quality of life while addressing ongoing medical, mobility, and emotional needs.

Client Overview:

• Location: Valletta, Malta
• Residence: High-end penthouse within a historic private palace residence
• Primary Client: Male, 84 years old
• Secondary Client: Female (spouse)

Mobility:

Primary client: Fair mobility; requires monitoring and light assistance

Secondary client: Reduced mobility; requires walking stick support and assistance due to Parkinson’s disease and chronic back condition

Medical:

Primary client: Hypertension, hypertrophic prostatism, cholesterol management, mild memory recall issues, astigmatism

Secondary client: Parkinson’s disease (progressive), slipped vertebral disc with chronic pain

Dietary:

Low-sodium diet required; caffeine must be avoided due to sensitivities

Balanced nutrition with attention to medical conditions and medication side effects

Communication:

Strong communication abilities; English and Maltese preferred

Cognitive:

Primary client: Mild memory recall challenges; requires occasional prompting

Secondary client: Cognitively aware but physically impacted by condition

Emotional:

Stable overall; requires emotional reassurance, companionship, and structured engagement

Interests:

Heritage, history, intellectual discussions, reading, music, family interaction, and cultural engagement

Family:

Highly involved and supportive family network with regular communication

Pets:

Occasional interaction with a household parrot (non-primary responsibility)

Responsibilities:

• Provide assistance with personal care and daily living activities while maintaining dignity and independence
• Support mobility and safe movement, including use of walking aids
• Administer and monitor medications as prescribed
• Prepare meals aligned with dietary and medical requirements
• Assist with physiotherapy exercises and light physical activity
• Provide companionship and emotional reassurance
• Support engagement in intellectual, cultural, and social activities
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the living environment
• Monitor health conditions and report any changes to family or medical professionals
• Complete daily care logs and maintain communication records
• Assist with appointments, family coordination, and outings when required
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols within a historic residential environment

Candidate Requirements:

• Experience working with elderly clients and managing chronic conditions (e.g. Parkinson’s, hypertension)
• Ability to support reduced mobility and use of mobility aids
• Strong understanding of medication routines and health monitoring
• Compassionate, patient, and attentive approach
• Excellent communication skills in English and/or Maltese
• Ability to provide both physical and emotional support
• Professional, respectful, and discreet due to private residence setting

Position Details:

Live-in position, six days per week
